Torrey is where you eat near Capitol Reef. There are effectively no restaurants inside the national park — only the Gifford House, which sells pie and cinnamon rolls rather than meals, and only from mid-March through late November. Torrey itself supports roughly sixteen food businesses, from fine dining to food trucks, with more in the neighbouring towns of Teasdale, Bicknell, Loa and Hanksville. Torrey's morning options are geared toward people trying to be at a trailhead by sunrise rather than lingering over brunch.

Rim Rock Restaurant sits above the valley and leans on locally sourced entrees — pan-seared trout, smoked ribs. Hunt & Gather builds slow-cooked meals around wild game and organic vegetables. Broken Spur is the western steakhouse of the group. Rock Garden Eatery & Bar runs the broadest menu, and Torrey Grill & BBQ does scratch-made barbecue with casual chuck-wagon seating around a fire pit.

Dessert and Drinks

• Etta Place Cidery & Taproom — Utah's only orchard-based cidery, with a taproom and a rotating menu of bar snacks. Opened in 2024.
• Color Ridge Farm & Creamery — artisanal ice cream in flavours like juniper berry and lavender honey.
• Gifford Homestead — the in-park pie and cinnamon roll stop, seasonal.

Mobile vendors move around the area and are worth checking on arrival, since they shift location and season more than the bricks-and-mortar rooms.

Torrey is a seasonal park town. Business follows the visitor curve, which peaks in spring and autumn and falls away from roughly November through March. Some restaurants close for the season outright. Others cut to a few days a week or shorter hours. Which ones, in which month, changes year to year.

This is not a small caveat. A winter visitor who assumes the dinner list on this page is live on a January evening can end up with nothing open. Two habits that work:
